Congressman David Rouzer

Representing the 7th District of North Carolina

Internships

In the Washington, DC office, internships are available for spring, summer, and fall semesters for current or rising college sophomores.  Internships are unpaid, but offer students invaluable work experience.  Hours can be made flexible to accommodate students’ course schedules and commitments, but generally run from 8:30 AM to 6 PM when Congress is in session.  When not in session, hours are from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

In our office an intern’s responsibilities will vary and include answering the phone, running errands, sorting the mail, researching legislation for the Congressman and the legislative staff, attending hearings and briefings, and answering constituents’ questions about issues before the House.  These duties give interns the opportunity to learn about the legislative process and the other functions of a congressional office while expanding their network of contacts.

Housing is not provided and interns are expected to arrange their own housing accommodations.  Feel free to contact our office for recommended housing options or help getting started.

There are 3 summer internship sessions for the DC office: May 9 – June 3, June 6 – July 1, July 5 – July 29.  These dates can be flexible if the need arises.  Spring and fall internships are more flexible and depend on the applicant’s availability.  For example, some spring internships may last the full semester while others may be only for the duration of the “January Term.”

The application deadline for 2015 summer internships in Congressman Rouzer’s office is April 4.  The notification process will begin April 11 with priority given to those applying for the first summer session.

Applications for fall and spring internships may be submitted at any time.

To apply, please fill out this internship application and email the application to our Intern Coordinator, Taylor Theodossiou, along with a copy of your resume, cover letter, and up to three letters of recommendation.  Please feel free to contact her by email or phone with any questions or concerns: (202) 225-2731.

District Internships are available upon request.  Interns in District Offices may be asked to do a variety of things, including answering the phone, writing letters, assisting with press/media clips, assisting with constituent case work, and helping with district-based projects.

For more information please contact our office: (202) 225-2731.
