The Federal Highway Trust Fund is hitting a revenue shortfall and will be unable to meet its spending obligations this spring. Financed by federal gas taxes, the Trust Fund is the primary source of federal transportation dollars. Congress must pass a bill that makes the Trust Fund solvent and stable so state and local agencies can plan for the future.
Historically, Michigan has been a “donor state,” receiving less highway funding back than its residents pay in gas taxes. I will fight to level the playing field for Michigan taxpayers by working to ensure Michigan receives equitable funding for roads and bridges.

Today, the House of Representatives passed an extension of the Highway Trust Fund. Representative John Moolenaar (R-Midland) released the following statement:
“Everyone agrees that our infrastructure needs are critical. We need to make highway funding a higher priority without raising taxes on hardworking Michigan families and without burdening our children with more debt,” said Moolenaar.
The extension of the Highway Trust Fund passed on a 387-35 vote, with one member voting present.
Today, President Obama vetoed Senate Bill 1, the Keystone XL Pipeline Approval Act. The legislation has bipartisan support in Congress and from a majority of Americans.
"This afternoon the president vetoed the bipartisan Keystone Pipeline bill, refusing to approve a project that supports good-paying jobs for hard-working Americans and improves our nation's energy security. Congress should override his veto and approve this project for the benefit of our country," said Moolenaar.
