As energy prices continue to rise, we need to implement a long-term energy policy aimed at reducing prices for American families and businesses. I support an all-of-the-above energy strategy that includes clean coal, natural gas, nuclear, and renewable energies, while also better utilizing our abundant domestic resources. We must become an energy-independent nation. In order to do so, we have to explore, we have to conserve and we have to pursue all avenues of alternative energy.
The United States must also secure access to resources elsewhere in North America. For this reason, I supported the approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline. The pipeline will stretch from the oil sands in Alberta, Canada to the Gulf Coast, bringing significant new oil supplies to refineries in the country. The project is estimated to support 42,000 jobs and transport 830,000 barrels of oil per day. .

Today, President Obama vetoed Senate Bill 1, the Keystone XL Pipeline Approval Act. The legislation has bipartisan support in Congress and from a majority of Americans.
"This afternoon the president vetoed the bipartisan Keystone Pipeline bill, refusing to approve a project that supports good-paying jobs for hard-working Americans and improves our nation's energy security. Congress should override his veto and approve this project for the benefit of our country," said Moolenaar.
Today, Representative John Moolenaar (R-Midland) voted in support of Senate Bill 1 to build the Keystone Pipeline. The bill passed 270 to 152, with bipartisan support. The bill has passed both chambers of Congress and now heads to President Obama's desk for his signature.
"The Keystone pipeline helps secure our country's energy independence and supports jobs without raising taxes or adding to our debt. There is broad bipartisan support for this legislation and the president should sign it," said Moolenaar.
