The Third Congressional District Art Competition

About the Competition

Who is running the competition:  The art contest is being run by the Isabel Anderson Comer Museum and Art Center, 711 Broadway North in Sylacauga.

Who can participate:  The competition is open to public and private high schools in the Third Congressional District.  Home school students are also welcome to enter.  Artwork does not have to be framed for competition.

How to participate:  To participate, a copy of the student release form must be faxed to Debby McBride at 202-226-8485 or 256-237-9203 by 4:00 p.m. (Central) on Monday, April 18, 2016.  The artwork itself must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. (Central) on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, to our Anniston or Opelika District Offices, or directly to the Comer Museum.  Please call our office or the museum before delivery to ensure someone is there.  A copy of the Student Release and Information Form must be attached to the back of the artwork.  If the piece of art is abstract, an arrow on the back of the artwork (indicating which direction is up) would be helpful.  If you foresee a problem in delivering the artwork to one of our District Offices or the museum by deadline, please call Debby McBride at 202-225-3261 by Monday, April 18th.

About the competition:  The artwork will be displayed from April 25 - April 30 at the Comer Museum.  A panel of qualified judges selected by the museum will choose their top five pieces of artwork.  The final selection process for the winner will be made online on Congressman Rogers' Facebook page.  Details about this process will be sent to your school in April.  On Saturday, April 30th at 2:00 p.m. (Central)  the Comer Museum will host a reception for all the artists, their families and teachers at which time awards will be presented.  All but the winning artwork will be returned at the reception or be available for pickup at our District Offices the following week.

In addition to the recognition at the museum, the winner of the Third District Congressional Art Contest will also receive a roundtrip airline ticket from Birmingham to Washington, D.C. for him/herself and one accompanying adult donated by airline, hotel accommodations for a three-day/two-night stay donated by the Isabel Anderson Comer Museum, a scholarship to an art school which can be renewed each year and prize money.
