We are a nation of immigrants past and immigrants present.  For more than 250 years, since the formation of the United States, immigrants have made our country what it is today.

Our immigration system is broken, and we must fix it. That’s why I’m a cosponsor of H.R. 15, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act. This bill will modernize our broken immigration system for the 21st Century by securing our borders, uniting families, and providing an earned pathway to citizenship. Despite the fact that the Senate passed a nearly identical bill more than one year ago, this bill has not been brought to the House Floor for a vote. That’s why I have also signed a petition to demand a vote in the House on this legislation to fix our broken immigration system.

My entire career in the House of Representatives has given me the opportunity to be a strong advocate for comprehensive immigration reform. I know first-hand the benefits that reforming our system will bring to the Valley. Continuing the status quo is not acceptable for the sake of our economy, the future of the San Joaquin Valley, and the 11 million people living in the shadows. We need reform now.
