About the District

California’s 15th Congressional District

Located in the heart of the East Bay, California’s 15th Congressional District is comprised of diverse communities filled with golden valleys, lush mountains, and breathtaking views of the San Francisco Bay and Silicon Valley.

The District’s multicultural population, strong economy, impressive schools, and booming business districts make it a desirable location to work and reside.

Ideal Place to Live, Work and Play

The District’s perfect blend of suburban and city life makes it an ideal place to do business, work, and live. The 15th District offers a variety of charming neighborhoods and abundant sports and recreational fields and community facilities.

The high tech industry’s presence is significant throughout the District and provides economic opportunities for many residents. The District is home to Northern Silicon Valley and many leading technology companies. It perfectly embodies the risk-taking and entrepreneurial culture of the region that continues to drive innovations. It is also the headquarters of major international companies such as Chevron, Safeway, and Bank of the West.

More Ph.D. candidates live in the 15th District than any other congressional district in the nation. It is fittingly home to two national laboratories: Lawrence Livermore and Sandia. The cutting-edge research projects at the laboratories are critical to our country’s national and energy security. The Camp Parks military base is also located within the 15th Congressional District.

Schools, Hospitals, Libraries and the Arts

The 15th District offers many excellent, nationally-recognized educational institutions. James Logan High School in Union City was one of the first schools in the country to receive the National Blue Ribbon Awards for excellence in education, and the New Haven Unified School District in Union City was recently awarded a $29 million Department of Education Race to the Top Grant to expand learning opportunities for students.

In 2015, Amador Valley High School and Foothill High School in Pleasanton and Dougherty Valley High Schoolin San Ramon were ranked among the top 100 high schools in California according to U.S. News & World Report.

The District is also home to several colleges. Cal State University, East Bay is located in Hayward and Las Positas College is in Livermore. Diablo Valley Community College and University of San Francisco both have satellite campuses in San Ramon.

There are many top-rated hospitals in the 15th District such as Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, the Valley Care Health System in Pleasanton and Amador Valley Medical Center in Dublin.

The District also has several community-friendly libraries that provide a variety of programs for all ages. The library in Dublin is newly renovated and a wonderful spot for students to study and for families to congregate. The Union City and Castro Valley Libraries also serve as good meeting locations and boast an impressive selection of books. A list of Alameda County libraries can be found here:http://www.aclibrary.org/.

The District boasts many performing arts venues where you can take in a show. The Amador Theater is located in Pleasanton and features many plays. Pleasanton is also home to the Firehouse Theater, a converted firehouse that brings you performances in music, poetry, theater, comedy, film and more. TheLivermore Valley Performing Arts Center and the San Ramon Performing Arts Program support the arts at several venues in their respective cities. In Hayward, you can watch performances at the Douglas Morrisson Theater, which also hosts the Morrisson Theater Chorus.

From historic downtowns and wineries to modern shopping centers and vibrant regional parks, the District provides a variety of attractions for local residents and visitors. The 15th District’s temperate climate provides for an ideal growing environment for the prosperous Livermore Valley wine region.  The region features over 45 wineries, which grow several award-winning and internationally-recognized wines.

Nestled in the 15th District are numerous parks filled with lakes for boating and fishing, popular hiking and biking trails, and views of the greater Bay Area region. The Pleasanton/Sunol Ridge, Coyote Hills Regional Park, Anthony Chabot Regional Park, San Antonio Reservoir, and Lake Del Valle State Recreational Area are just a few of the many parks within the District.

The Alameda County Fair is a beloved summertime activity for many 15th District residents. The annual fair features freestyle motocross shows, theme park style roller coasters and rides, animal and livestock exhibitions, and carnival traditions including funnel cake and skeeball games.
