Internships

Washington, DC

I offer internship opportunities for eligible undergraduate students in my Washington, D.C. office throughout the fall, spring, and summer semesters.  These internships are an excellent opportunity to learn about the federal government and public policy issues while spending a summer or semester dedicated to public service.  Work hours during the fall and spring semesters are flexible to accommodate students’ hectic course schedules, but generally run 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Summer interns are expected to work full time.

In Washington, interns' responsibilities will vary. They will be asked to answer phones, run errands, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings, assist with media clips, and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.

How to Apply

Students interested in an internship should complete the internship form below or contact my Washington, D.C. Office and speak with my Intern Coordinator. My Intern Coordinator will ask you to submit a letter of interest and resume. I accept applications for spring and fall interns on a rolling basis.

Summer is the most popular time for interns, and the rules of the House limit the number of interns an office may hire at any particular time.  Preference is given to residents of Guam.  The deadline for summer applications is March 1 of each year.

All internships are unpaid, but college credit may be earned if arranged in advance with your academic institution. If you would like more information on Congressional Internships—please contact my office.
