WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D | Los Angeles County), sponsor of H.R. 4966, the Preventing Superbugs and Protecting Patients Act, issued the following statement in response to the passage of H.R. 34, the 21st Century Cures Act, by the House of Representatives.
Federal lawmakers are becoming skeptical of the DEA’s marijuana eradication program.
In a letter to the Government Accountability Office (GAO), which is responsible for holding Uncle Sam’s leash, eight members of the U.S. House of Representatives asked the agency to dig into the DEA’s controversial cannabis eradication program to find out just how effective it really is now that the plant has been legalized in over half the United States.
The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) this week released its 2016 congressional scorecard on marijuana policy. Twenty U.S. representatives and two senators received an 'A' grade, indicating that "this member has publicly declared his/her support for the legalization and regulation of marijuana for adults," according to NORML (see the full list at the bottom of this article).

Lieu (D | Los Angeles County) sent a letter to Secretary John Kerry urging the State Department to request that Japanese authorities investigate and prosecute Olympus for civil or criminal misconduct in their mishandling of antibiotic-resistant bacteria infections caused by their medical devices.
