Congresswoman Suzan DelBene

Representing the 1st District of Washington

The 115th Congress

I want to start by saying it’s an honor to continue to represent Washington’s First Congressional District. While I still believe there is more that unites us than divides us, the past few weeks have exposed deep divisions across our country. We have a lot of hard work ahead of us to come together as a nation.

I’ve heard from many of you who have concerns about the next administration based on the rhetoric of the last few months – I share those concerns and want you to know I will continue to defend all Americans’ civil liberties and fight to uphold constitutional protections. This may be challenging, but this is incredibly important.

I have the honor of representing one of the only evenly split districts in the country – it was drawn to be evenly divided politically – and that gives me the opportunity to hear a wide variety of views on issues. As a result, I work hard to find the common ground where we can actually get things done rather than focusing on what divides us. I truly believe the rest of Congress could learn a great deal from spending time listening to differing points of view that a diverse district like ours provides.

I believe both parties can and should come together on policies that will help grow our economy like investing in infrastructure and job-training programs. However, I will not compromise when it comes to our country’s core values of equality, justice and access to opportunity for every American, no matter your gender, ethnicity, age, religion or sexual orientation.

As always, my office is here to serve you. If you have questions or comments about the topics that matter most to you, I encourage you to contact me through my website.
