U.S. House Rejects Anti-Israel U.N. Resolution

January 5, 2017
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Mo Brooks (AL-05) voted for a bipartisan resolution condemning and calling for the United Nations to repeal Security Council Resolution 2334 that purports to invalidate Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.  The United States has vetoed 42 anti-Israel resolutions since 1972.  In an unprecedented move, President Obama declined to veto Security Council Resolution 2334.

Congressman Mo Brooks said, “The Obama Administration’s failure to veto and support for an anti-Israel resolution by the United Nations is a dangerous violation of the United States’ longstanding, bipartisan friendship with Israel.  The Obama Administration’s permitting this anti-Israel resolution to pass by ‘taking a walk’ is harmful, counterproductive to peace, and emboldens those who wish to destroy Israel and murder Israelis.”

Brooks concluded, “I wholeheartedly oppose this and any other effort that puts Israel in mortal danger, emboldens Israel’s enemies, or increases the risk that Middle Eastern disputes will ultimately be resolved via the use of nuclear weapons.  I look forward to working with President-elect Trump to restore and renew the strong relationship America has enjoyed with Israel over the decades.”
