DeLauro Slams GOP Plan to Defund Planned Parenthood as Part of ACA Repeal

WASHINGTON, DC (January 6, 2017) — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today called on Speaker Paul Ryan and Majority Leader McConnell to drop any plans to defund Planned Parenthood as part of their efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

“Planned Parenthood provides vital preventative care and family planning services that improve the quality of life for millions of American women each year. From life-saving cancer screenings and well-woman exams, to birth control and sexual transmitted infection testing, Planned Parenthood provides services that critical to the health and well-being of women who would not otherwise receive care.

“House Republicans must stop their repeated attacks on women’s health and the health care of hard-working Americans, and should instead work to create jobs and expand opportunities for the middle class. There are too many critical issues facing Congress to spend time and resources on an extremist agenda that only stands to threaten the lives of millions of Americans.

“Speaker Ryan, American women and their families are watching. If you go forward with this dangerous and misguided plan, there will be consequences. You can count me in as a Member of Congress who will do everything possible to stop these attacks, protect Planned Parenthood, and fight for women’s health and the future of the Affordable Care Act.”
