The 13th District is home to nine colleges and universities and a total of 45,000 students as well as many high schools throughout the district. My office offers many ways to help students achieve their goals and highlight their achievements. Whether it's internships through my offices or highlighting students' artistic abilities through the Congressional Art Competition, my offices are here to help students succeed.
Internships
A Congressional internship is a rewarding and enriching experience for our nation’s youth. Working in Congressman Davis' office, interns will have the opportunity to learn first hand about congress and our government.
While preference is given to applicants from Illinois, Congressman Davis encourages all students who have displayed leadership skills, academic excellence, and a strong desire to contribute through public service to apply.
Locations: Internships are offered for the Summer, Fall and Spring semesters in both Congressman Davis' Illinois and Washington DC offices.
Funding, Housing, and Academic Credits: Internships are unpaid positions. Applicants are responsible for arranging all costs of living as well as the securing of housing and academic credits through their college or university. Congressman Davis' office is happy to assist interns by providing appropriate additional information as requested by their academic institution.

Congressional Art Competition
Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives as an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in our congressional district.

Congressional App Challenge
The Congressional App Challenge is a competition aimed at encouraging U.S. high school students to learn how to code by creating their own applications. The Challenge is intended to highlight the value of computer science and STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
I know how crucial these skills are and want to encourage students to engage in these fields. By encouraging and recognizing our nation’s young programming talent, Congress hopes to shine a light on the growing importance of these skills.
Please note that this competition is open to all students who meet the eligibility requirements, regardless of coding experience. I strongly encourage students of all skill levels to participate, to learn how to create their own apps.

Service Academy Nominations
Members of Congress are asked to nominate candidates to the U.S. Service Academies each year, and the number of vacancies for each congressional district is determined by law. Candidates can be considered for openings at the U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis, Md.), U.S. Military Academy (West Point, N.Y.), U.S. Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs, Co.) and the U.S. Merchant Marines Academy (Kings Point, N.Y.).
To be considered for appointment all applicants must be: a U.S. citizen; a legal resident of the 13th District; at least 17 but not more than 23 years of age on July 1, 2014; single; and have no dependents. It is recommended that applicants contact the academy or academies of their choice to request a pre-candidate questionnaire, which is the first step in the Admission Office’s evaluation.
