Davis Votes for Measure Disapproving of Anti-Israel UN Action
U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) today released this statement after the House overwhelmingly passed a resolution disapproving of the United Nations Security Council’s vote in December condemning Israel for its settlement policy in the West Bank. The United States, which possesses veto power, abstained, breaking longstanding tradition of voting against anti-Israel resolutions.
“The Obama administration’s unwillingness to block this anti-Israel measure sends a dangerous message to our most loyal and steadfast ally in the Middle East,” said Davis. “This abrupt change in U.S. policy fuels a false narrative that hinders the prospect for peace and a two-state solution. However, with the bipartisan support shown in the House today and a new administration, I am confident the U.S. will return to its longstanding tradition of supporting our strongest ally in the Middle East.” Click here to view the resolution passed by the House. |
