Yesterday, Representative Carlos Curbelo (FL-26) was appointed to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means. Curbelo’s appointment was recommended by the House Republican Steering Committee, chaired by Speaker Paul Ryan, a former Ways and Means Chairman, and will be confirmed by the House Republican Conference.

“I am honored to be selected by my colleagues to serve as a Member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee in the 115th Congress,” Curbelo said. “This new position will allow me to advocate for many issues of importance to my constituents and our South Florida community, such as the strengthening Social Security and Medicare by reducing fraud and making these programs sustainable for all generations of Americans and also the promotion of free and fair trade – a major economic driver in our community. The Committee will also debate and advance solutions to bring our nation’s tax code into the 21st century and address flaws in our healthcare system in an effort to build a healthy economy that benefits every American family, and ensures that the most vulnerable citizens can find their path to success.

“I’m grateful to Speaker Paul Ryan and Committee Chairman Kevin Brady for their trust and confidence and I look forward to working with my Republican and Democratic colleagues on the Committee to advance bipartisan solutions that will better the lives of those in my district and across the country,” Curbelo added.

“The House Committee on Ways and Means has broad jurisdiction over many issues Carlos has made a priority in Congress, including tax policy, free and fair trade, healthcare, and entitlement reform,” Ryan said. “Carlos’ appointment makes him the only South Florida Republican on the Committee. His proven work ethic and diligence in finding common sense solutions to some of the most serious issues facing our country will make him a great Member of the esteemed Committee on Ways and Means.”

“As a former small business owner in South Florida, Carlos understands the challenges our Main Street businesses face daily,” Brady said. “He will be a strong advocate for America’s workers and local job creators.

“With a full roster, Ways and Means Republicans are ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work on President-elect Trump’s and the American people’s top priorities,” Brady added
