WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, the House passed the Further Continuing and Security Assistance Appropriations Act, 2017, commonly known as the “CR.” This legislation extends government funding until April 28, 2017 and maintains current budget cap levels put into place under the Budget Control Act of 2011. Rep. Rick Allen (R-Ga.-12) released the following statement in support:

“While this legislation is far from perfect, a short-term CR ensures the government operates without a shutdown until April and funds immediate critical national security measures, like the fight against radical Islamic terror. This strategy will allow time for the next Congress and a new administration, under President-Elect Trump, to negotiate spending levels and move our country forward. I am hopeful that next year, we can return to regular order and continue to pass spending bills that protect conservative priorities.”

Further Continuing and Security Assistance Appropriations Act, 2017:

  • Provides funding for our troops and overseas contingency to support military and diplomatic efforts to fight ISIS and terror around the globe

  • Responds to refugee and migration crises, including in Africa, Europe and Eurasia, the Middle East, and South and Central Asia, while prohibiting certain funds from being made available for the resettlement of refugees in the United States until the new Administration takes control

  • Contains natural disaster relief, including Hurricane Matthew, and addresses contaminated drinking water in cities across America

  • Supports 21st Century Cures Act of 2016 with funding to prioritize healthcare research, drug approval and drug abuse efforts

  • Establishes an expedited process in the Senate for General Mattis to be appointed as Secretary of Defense

  • Prevents a pay increase for Members of Congress
