As the proud Representative of Johnson Space Center (JSC), I understand firsthand the importance of human spaceflight to Americans. That's why as the Chairman of the House Space Subcommittee on the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, I am focused on passing legislation aimed at getting American astronauts launching on American rockets from American soil. It is time that the United States reclaims its rightful place as the leaders of the world in human spaceflight and exploration. This is imperative not only for our economy, but our national security as well.

So far in the 114th Congress, the House of Representatives has taken important steps to ensure American preeminence in human spaceflight. The House unanimously passed the NASA Authorization Act of 2015 in February, and the Science, Space, and Technology Committee passed a two year NASA Authorization bill for 2016 and 2017. These bills restore space exploration funding and support NASA’s role as the only government agency charged with space exploration. The House also recently passed a series of Space bills that advance commercial space through encouraging private sector investment. All of these bills will bolster thousands of high tech American jobs, build a stronger economy, advance technological leadership, and strengthen our nation’s industrial base.

Serving JSC, the people who work there, and their mission is one of my top priorities in Congress. I have supported full funding for the International Space Station, Orion Crew Capsule, Space Launch System, and Commercial Crew Programs. I believe that the American entrepreneurial spirit can be propelled forward beyond our world and into the final frontier.
