I joined CNN's New Day program this morning to discuss the FBI Director's conduct in this latest email review. I, and many of my colleagues, agree with the opinion that has been shared by former law enforcement and Justice Department officials -- that Director Comey's conduct in this case has been highly inappropriate by commenting on an ongoing investigation, violating FBI and Justice Department guidelines.

Very glad that the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA), which I was the lead Democratic sponsor of in the House, was passed into law.

The act will allow survivors and families of victims of the Sept. 11 attacks sue the Saudi Arabian government for its alleged involvement.

A founding father and iconic statesman, Shimon Peres has been a constant force in the history of the State of Israel and the Jewish people for more than seven decades. Universally, Shimon Peres has loomed large as a great champion of peace and of Israel – a giant whose influence will never leave us, and whose memory will always be present.

From Israel’s formation in 1948, Shimon Peres was a central figure and leading visionary in establishing the State, ensuring its securit...y, and pushing for peace. He is respected the world over for his courage, his wisdom, and his humanity, and leaves behind a lasting legacy as a hero of Jewish history and of the Israeli people.

Shimon Peres’ intellect, energy and passion highlighted a statesman who expertly combined mind, body and heart in his life’s work. He was a prime minister and a president, a fighter and a Nobel Peace Prize winner, an author and a farmer, someone who lost his family in the Holocaust and built a nation as one of Israel’s founding fathers. Through these roles, Shimon Peres perfectly represented the people and the country he so loved. The impact of his contributions is felt on a daily basis by so many, and will continue to inspire future generations.

May his memory be a blessing.

I am proud to have voted for legislation establishing the National Museum of African American History and Culture back in 2003. After many years in the making, it is finally opening tomorrow. I want to commend all those who worked tirelessly to make this museum possible, and I encourage everyone to visit the museum when they are in Washington, DC.

The bomb that ripped apart the Chelsea neighborhood last Saturday night reminded every New Yorker of our ability to come together in response to tragedy. The scars of this attack will remain for a long time, as we witnessed, once again, the impact of terrorism in our City. Whenever New Yorkers are attacked, we stand united behind the men, women and families who have suffered, as well as our heroic first responders for their valiant efforts.

This week, I chaired a House Membe...r briefing on the attacks, with officials from the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and the National Counterterrorism Center, updating us on the ongoing investigations in New York, New Jersey, and Minnesota. It is important that we stand with those in Chelsea who have been affected by this most recent act of terror and destruction, just as we stand with those in New Jersey and Minnesota, and we thank the local, state, and federal investigators for their tireless work in bringing those responsible to justice.

Officials spoke with relief that no one died in the Chelsea bombing, but those injured suffered grievous wounds — to their bodies, and their psyches.

New York City is recognized the world over as global center for art, music and culture. It is no wonder then that so many New Yorkers grace this year’s list of recipients for the National Medals of Arts and Humanities. Congratulations to all of the 2015 awardees, particularly the eight recipients from New York, including writer Ron Chernow, comedian and actor Mel Brooks, jazz musician Wynton Marsalis, playwright Moises Kaufman, dancer and choreographer Ralph Lemon, actress and singer Audra McDonald, artist Jack Whitten, and composer Philip Glass. Such a distinguished list is reflective of New York City’s contributions to the arts and humanities, and is fitting for a city known as the cultural capital of the world.

I wish I could say I was shocked to find myself at the Republican Select Panel voting on a report on contempt against StemExpress, but yesterday’s meeting is just another step in this long corrupt process the Republicans are calling an investigation. Don’t be fooled. No matter how the Panel voted, this effort is a clear violation of House rules. The Chair had no authority to bring up this resolution and no path to bring it before the full House or the Speaker. But that’s not what this vote is all about.

This morning, the House Judiciary Committee held fake impeachment hearings into IRS misconduct, rather than discussing the important issues facing our country. During questioning, I decided to use my time to focus on legitimate concerns related to the IRS Commissioner, such as the ability to release taxes during an audit and the tax exempt status of organizations and charitable foundations.

I am thrilled to join my colleagues in today’s announcement of a new expanded planning process for a new West Side bus terminal. The future planning for the project will include significant local stakeholder input into a comprehensive public engagement and planning process, which will fully examine the range of options for a new Bus Terminal and view the project in an appropriate regional context, including an analysis of potential temporary and additional bus facility sites ...in both states. I thank Port Authority Chairman John Degnan and Vice Chairman Steve Cohen for listening to our concerns and agreeing to engage in this new planning process. Only through a robust and transparent planning process will we be able to build a modern bus terminal that can be the pride of both New York and New Jersey.

Today, during floor debate of legislation prohibiting the transfer of Guantanamo detainees, I spoke out against the blatant disregard and undermining by the House Majority specifically directed at President Obama and his executive authority. This bill says, in effect, that President Obama is not really our president, despite being elected by the American people four years ago. Just like with what the Senate is doing with regards to Judge Garland, House Republicans are saying that President Obama's term has expired, and have signaled their intent to wait for the next president to take office. Such an attitude is pernicious and against our constitutional values. At every level, this bill is probably unconstitutional, and certainly immoral, which is why I oppose it.
