Energy and Environment

Our current energy policies need modernization.  Reliance on foreign fossil fuels is too expensive, exposes us to political and security risks associated with purchasing oil from unstable and undemocratic regimes, and fails to combat the negative impact of climate change.

America needs a new comprehensive energy policy for the 21st century.  Investing in the “green economy” is a win-win that decreases our energy costs, reduces our carbon footprint, increases our public health, protects our air and water, and decreases our dependence on foreign oil which will make our nation fundamentally safer.

Investing in clean energy technologies is also a job creator – many of which can be right here in the Second District.  Our district includes 1,200 farms, with many acres of corn and soybeans who’s silk, husks, and seeds can be used to make ethanol.  Similarly, our district is home to, or neighbors, many of our nation’s best research universities.

In Congress, I will continue to work with my colleagues to pass common sense energylegislation that:

  1. Improves energy efficiency;
  2. Saves families and businesses money on their electric bills;
  3. Spurs innovation and creates good paying green jobs;
  4. Lessens our dependence on foreign fossil fuels, while increasing production of domestic alternative energy sources such as biofuels, wind, and solar power; and
  5. Reducing our national carbon footprint and reversing the causes of global climate change.

You can also do your share to decrease our nation’s carbon footprint, while lowering your energy costs as well.  See also information on saving on gas and home energy expenses.

River Advocate Fights To Reveal Beauty and Value of Community Waterways

While some activists search across the globe for ways to protect our natural resources, one 2nd Congressional District constituent is leading a crusade for clean waterways right here in the Chicago Southland.

Michael Taylor of Richton Park has been in love with the water from a young age. However, it wasn’t until he docked his powerboat and started kayaking that he noticed some environmental issues right in his backyard.
