The Congressional App Challenge

The House App ContestThe House of Representatives is excited to announce the third annual Congressional App Challenge. Students that live or attend school in the 12th Congressional District of San Francisco will have the opportunity to compete for a chance to represent San Francisco, either as individuals or as teams, by creating and submitting their own software app for mobile, tablet, or other computing devices on a platform of their choice.

Students must submit a student sign-up form along with their source code or idea for an app to our Congressional App Challenge webpage by November 2, 2016. Challenge participants must also provide a YouTube or VIMEO video demo describing their app and what they learned throughout the competition process. Students will be offered opportunities to engage with STEM educational partners and tech community leaders who will serve as a judging panel to choose the competition winner and provide feedback on submitted apps. The winner’s app will be displayed on the Congressional App Challenge website and on a digital display in the Capitol Building for the year following the conclusion of the Challenge.

Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi joins with Lowell High School students Brandon Fong, Caleb Kahookele, Jeremy Lin, and Christopher Lim, last year’s winners of the 2nd Annual Congressional App Challenge.

For the second annual House App Challenge, my office was proud to select “Vote.For.Us.”, an app with resource for new and eligible voters on how to vote and why it is important to exercise your right to vote, created by Lowell High School students Brandon Fong, Caleb Kahookele, Jeremy Lin, and Christopher Lim.

My office organized an event for the competition finalists to visit the education startup, Clever, in San Francisco’s SOMA District. During the visit, students toured Clever Headquarters, presented their apps to a panel of judges from San Francisco’s tech community, and were given the opportunity to ask the judges questions about their careers and the technology industry. The Congressional App Challenge winners later visited me in my San Francisco office and offered a demo of Vote.For.Us.
