Pearce Votes to Protect American Jobs from Last Minute Regulations

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Steve Pearce released the following statement following the passage of H.R. 21, the Midnight Rules Relief Act.

“Increased regulation by the Obama Administration is crushing our businesses and sending U.S. jobs overseas,” said Pearce. “Before he leaves office, President Obama is expected to issue over 220 last minute regulations. In his rush to cement his legacy, President Obama’s ‘mid-night’ regulations will be far worse than his previous actions, as these have not been fully considered by the American public.

Today’s bill, H.R. 21, is extremely important in ensuring that all of the outgoing Administration’s last minute regulations can be reversed without slowing down the legislative process. Tomorrow, the House will act on H.R. 26, legislation that will prevent agencies from unilaterally passing major regulations without the consent of the people’s Congress. I am proud to be voting for these two bills as they will ease the regulatory burdens on job creators and will allow for jobs to remain in New Mexico and in the U.S.”

Federal regulations imposed on U.S. job creators and households cost roughly $1.8 trillion in 2015. H.R. 21 would allow Congress to bundle all last minute (Midnight Regulations) together into one resolution of disapproval instead of doing them one at a time. Tomorrow, the House of Representatives will continue its attempt to ease regulatory burdens on small businesses and the American people by voting on H.R. 26, the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act of 2017.
