Financial Resources
Unemployment Insurance: Offers unemployment compensation through the New York State Department of Labor.
Disability Insurance: Provides temporary benefits paid to an eligible wage earner through the New York State Insurance Fund.
Foreclosure Avoidance Counseling: Provides counseling on home loan modifications, foreclosure prevention, and acquiring financial literacy.
Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union: Offers financial counseling and education classes, including how to manage debt, balance a budget, maintain credit and protect investments.
Hudson River Housing: Provides group information sessions, homeowner workshops, and counseling services.
Poughkeepsie Housing Authority: Provides affordable housing assistance to individuals and families in the Poughkeepsie area.
Job Training and Education
Dutchess One Stop: Offers a full service resource room, job listings, career counseling, workshops and individual training accounts.
Westchester-Putnam One-Stop Employment Center: Offers workshops, trainings, and orientations, as well as online resources to connect with employers in the area and apply for job openings.
Orange Works: Provides trainings and access to upcoming job fairs.
Office of Entrepreneurial Education: Provides educational programs and workshops, teacher resources, and small business plan competitions for young people and veterans.
NYS JobZone Program: Provides regional job listings, resume and cover letter assistance, job interview training, and job training resources.
NYS Small Business Development Center: Provides assistance with financial planning, best management practices, workshops, and marketing.
Veterans Business Outreach Program: Provides assistance to veterans with counseling, training and mentorship.
Women and Minority Business Owners & Entrepreneurs: Provides small business assistance, through the New York State Small Business Development Center.
Women’s Enterprise Development Center: Provides access to affordable, high-quality business training programs and technical resources needed to achieve economic self-sufficiency through business ownership.
U.S. Small Business Administration: Provides assistance for those interested in starting a small business and in need of information on loans, contracting, grants, and management practices.
International Business Development: Provides assistance to small- and medium-sized businesses to help enter, promote and expand into the global marketplace.
Health Care and Wellness
The Healthy NY Program: Provides comprehensive and affordable health insurance to individuals and small businesses. Either you or your spouse must currently work, or have worked in the past 12 months; Not had insurance for more than 12 months, or have lost your insurance due to losing employment, canceling or exhausting COBRA.
Family Health Plus: Offers health insurance for adults who are age 19-64 who have income too high to qualify for Medicaid. Family Health Plus is available to single adults, couples without children, and parents who are residents of New York State and are United States citizens.
Children’s Health Plus & Children's Medicaid: Provides health insurance for children under the age of 19. Whether a child qualifies for Children's Medicaid or Child Health Plus depends on gross family income. Children who are not eligible for Medicaid can enroll in Child Health Plus if they don't already have health insurance and are not eligible for coverage under the public employees' state health benefits plan.
Medicaid: Provides health insurance for families and individuals due to financial hardship, or high medical bills. Also offers financial assistance with COBRA payments if you qualify.
Medicare: Offers health insurance for those who qualify and are 65 years or older. People younger may qualify, including those who have disabilities.
Greater Hudson Valley Family Health Center: Offers stress management classes, mental health classes, family health, and other community workshops. Patients with or without insurance are accepted, including Medicaid and Medicare, and a sliding fee scale is implemented for those without coverage.
Middletown Community Health Center: Provides family health, podiatry, dentistry, mental health services, nutrition services, pediatrics, social work, and OB/GYN services.
Hudson River Health Care: Provides family medicine, podiatry, dentistry, behavioral health, nutrition services, prenatal care, OB/GYN, and family planning services.
Family Services New York: Offers services in partnership with organizations around the region including but not limited to Hudson River Community Health Center, Hudson Valley Mental Health, and Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood of the Mid-Hudson Valley & Hudson Peconic: Provides family planning, annual exams, and reproductive services.
Healthy Families New York: Offers home-based services to expectant families and new parents, beginning prenatally or shortly after the birth of the child.
Hudson Valley Mental Health: Provides services including individual or group therapy, medication, and medication management.
Dutchess County Mental Health: Provides information on local resources and services to individuals including information on rehabilitation centers, group therapy, clinics, psychiatric services, vocational programs, and educational workshops.
Orange County Adult Mental Health Services: Provides information on local resources and clinics for individuals including community hospitals, psychiatric centers, rehabilitation clinics, and mental health services.
Putnam County Department of Social Services and Mental Health: Provides information on local services and resources for individuals and families including medical centers and mental health clinics.
Westchester County Mental Health Association: Provides information on local services and resources for individuals and families including medical centers, rehabilitation services, psychiatric facilities and mental health clinics.
Child Care
The Child Care Council: Provides child care information and referrals to child care programs in Dutchess and Putnam counties, offers technical assistance and required training to child care providers and administers the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) for home-based child care.
Childcare Center: Provides information on the childcare facilities in Dutchess County.
Daycare Centers: Provides information on the childcare centers in Dutchess County.
Department of Community & Family Services: Offers community and family services through the Dutchess County government.
Dutchess County Community Action Agency: Provides child care and assistance with food stamp applications, HEAP, food pantry service, domestic violence referrals, and health insurance referrals.
Legal Services
LawHelpNY.org: Provides legal information to New Yorkers, including employment and unemployment insurance law.
Legal Services of the Hudson Valley: Provides poor and low income individuals with free non-criminal legal counsel and representation in issues including housing, food stamps, Medicaid, and the disabled.
