Students and Higher Education

With student loan rates set to double, the dream of attending college is slipping away for many students. The out of control cost of college has forced the vast majority of New York's students to take out college loans. Those students owe an average of $26,000 in debt. And if Congress doesn’t act by July 1st, they’ll owe even more. Interest rates will double from 3.4% to 6.8% - this means college will cost $1000 more for students. I don't have to tell you that students in the Hudson Valley and across New York can’t afford this hike, plain and simple.

I think it’s just common sense - we should be making it easier for students to go to college - not harder.
