Price Statement: Legislation to Rename Marietta Post Office in Honor of Marine Lance Corporal Squire 'Skip' Wells Becomes Law

Roswell, GA — Today, Congressman Tom Price, M.D. (GA-06) announced that legislation he introduced to designate the United States Postal Service located at 2886 Sandy Plains Road in Marietta, Georgia, as the "Marine Lance Corporal Squire 'Skip' Wells Post Office Building,” has been signed into law.

“Today, we are extremely pleased and grateful to announce that this Marietta Post Office will be renamed in honor of Marine Lance Corporal Squire 'Skip' Wells,” said Congressman Tom Price. “We can never repay the immense debt that we owe Skip Wells and his family, but we should do all we can to honor his memory and the memory of all those who have given their lives for our nation. It is our hope that the Marine Lance Corporal Squire 'Skip' Wells Post Office Building will stand as tribute to a true American and Georgian hero, so that all future generations may learn of and honor his heroic sacrifice. Skip Wells will never be forgotten.”

Background:

A native of Marietta, Georgia, Marine Lance Corporal Squire Wells was known by his friends and family as “Skip.” Lance Corporal Wells attended Sprayberry High School in Cobb County, where he graduated in 2012. After graduation, he studied history at Georgia Southern University before going on to enlist in the Marine Corps in 2014. His family had a long tradition of military service and Marine Lance Corporal Wells felt called to defend his country.

On July 16, 2015, Marine Lance Corporal Wells was one of five service members murdered in a terrorist attack at the Naval Reserve Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was completing training at the Naval Reserve Center in Chattanooga when a gunman opened fire on the compound. Disregarding his own safety, Marine Lance Corporal Wells was last seen running to warn colleagues in the motor pool of the attack. He was 21 years old at the time of his death. The Navy posthumously honored Marine Lance Corporal Wells as a Purple Heart recipient.
