Service Academy Nominations

Thank you for your interest in the U.S. Service Academies. As your 5th District Representative in the U.S. House of Representatives, each year I have the privilege of nominating a limited number of people to four of the five service academies:

The honor of attending a service academy comes with an obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

For more information, please review my page of Frequently Asked Questions for those seeking a Military Academy Nomination. Best wishes to you as you pursue your goal of attending one of the U.S. Service Academies and serving our country.

Service Academy NominationsNominations

To be considered for admission to a service academy, an applicant must have a nomination, pursuant to Title 10 of the U.S. Code, through either a congressional office or activities related to military service. Applicants who meet eligibility requirements may apply for and receive nominations from both categories.

Applicants may apply for and receive nominations from both their U.S. Representative and their two U.S. Senators. Applicants may also apply to the Vice President of the United States, who can nominate applications at large.

Application

In order to apply for a nomination from me to a Service Academy, please download this application:

This application and all required documents are due no later than October 31, 2016.

If possible, please return this application via email (.pdf attachment preferred) to Kevin Sulc in my Anderson office. His email address is kevin.sulc@mail.house.gov. If you cannot email the application then you may mail to Congresswoman Susan Brooks, 120 East 8th Street, #101, Anderson, IN 46016.

As part of the application, you also are required to send in the following items:

  1. Three (3) letters of recommendation per instructions in the application.

  2. Your High School Transcript (at least through 6 semesters).

  3. Copies of your SAT and/or ACT score reports.

  4. 300 word (max) essay on why you wish to attend a service academy.

  5. Your most recent photo (digitally attached to the application, preferred).

Although you are not required to submit these items at the same time as the application, all of these items and the application are due to my Anderson office no later than October 31, 2016.

Interviews

Your application and documents will be reviewed by one of my academy nomination advisory committees. Finalists will be selected and required to attend an interview before the committee.

These interviews are tentatively scheduled for December 3, 2016. If selected, you will be notified of the date, time and place of your interview.

Following the interviews, final recommendations will be made to me for nominations. You will be notified of my decision before Christmas.

Please note that this nomination application process is in addition to the Academy's application process. It is YOUR responsibility to apply to the Academy(s) of your choice and follow their instructions as well.

If you have any questions throughout this process, please feel free to contact Kevin at 765-640-5115.
