Internships

Fall and Spring term internship applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Summer term applications are accepted now through March 1st, 2017. If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to Erin McMenamin (Erin.McMenamin@mail.house.gov).

Washington, D.C.

In my Washington, D.C. office, internships run throughout the fall, spring and summer terms. Although all internships are unpaid, students gain invaluable work experience. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' hectic course schedules, but generally are 9 AM to 5 PM.

In Washington, interns' responsibilities will vary. They will be asked to answer phones, run errands, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a Congressional office.

Indiana District Offices

In my Carmel and Anderson offices, interns may be asked to do a variety of things, including day-to-day office work such as answering phones, writing letters and assisting with media clips. In addition, interns may be assigned to assist in various constituent case work or work on District-based projects of importance. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' hectic course schedules, but generally are from 9 AM to 5 PM.

NOTE: Due to the high number of applicants for summer internships in all of our offices, we give preference to undergraduate students and those with ties to the 5th District. Graduate students will be considered for intern positions during the fall and spring semesters in any of my offices.

High school students are not eligible for internships in any of my offices. If you are a high school student and would like to get involved, I encourage you to sign up for my Youth Advisory Group here.

If you would like more information on Congressional Internships, please contact my office or call 202-225-2276.
