We must ensure the security and prosperity of our nation by maintaining and strengthening our current strategic alliances and building new ones that reflect American interests and values. In Congress, I am committed to stopping Iran’s nuclear proliferation and fulfilling our constitutional obligation to “provide for the common defense” of America.
I understand that a world without U.S. leadership will be a more chaotic place, a place where we have less influence, and a place where our citizens face more dangers and fewer opportunities. I believe in a strong military that has the ability to expand our influence abroad and our security at home. At the same time, it is important to protect, compensate, and care for those young men and women who bravely defend our freedoms.
I will also work to improve the circumstances facing our veterans with more efficient systems and resources for their growing population. Indiana is home to over a half million veterans, and my district is home to the Marion VA Medical Center. We owe it to them to ensure that these Americans who have selflessly served to protect us, their families, and their survivors receive the care, benefits, and services they’ve earned.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 2992, the Merchant Marine of World War II Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2016, a bill introduced by Rep. Susan Brooks (R-IN) and Rep. Janice Hahn (D-CA). This legislation will present the highest civilian award Congress can bestow to the Merchant Mariners who acted heroically to transport troops and provide critical supplies of war to U.S. troops by sea during World War II.

The decades-long effort to recognize and honor the U.S. Merchant Marines of WWII took another step forward Wednesday when the House passed a bipartisan measure to award the seamen a Congressional Gold Medal.
The medal, along with the Presidential Medal of Honor, is the highest civilian award in the country.
More than 200,000 Merchant Mariners played essential and perilous roles in winning the war -- ferrying American troops and supplies into Atlantic and Pacific theater battle zones.
The Noblesville High School junior class hosted area veterans, Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks, Senator Luke Kenley and Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear Nov. 7 at its annual Veteran's Day program. Noblesville High School has scheduled a Veteran's Day event for 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 7, 2016, in the high school auditorium and is inviting local veterans to attend.
Superintendent Dr. Beth Niedermeyer, Mayor John Ditslear, Senator Luke Kenly and Congresswoman Susan Brooks are expected to be in attendance.
In addition to honoring veterans, the event is designed to teach high school students about the importance of Veteran's Day. The program will last approximately an hour and will be followed by a reception in the cafeteria.
Washington, DC – Last night, Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks (R-IN) voted in favor of H.R. 5931, the Prohibiting Future Ransom Payments to Iran Act, to make it clear that the Obama Administration violated longstanding U.S. policy by paying ransom for the return of American held hostages by Iran in untraceable currency, and prohibiting such action in the future. The bill passed the House by a vote of 254-163.

Carmel-based ITT Educational Services Inc. shut down all of its ITT Tech campuses on Sept. 6, leaving more than 1,000 Hoosier students without degrees.
WASHINGTON — Reps. Luke Messer (IN-06), Todd Young (IN-09), Jackie Walorski (IN-02), Susan Brooks (IN-05), Larry Bucshon (IN-08) and Todd Rokita (IN-04) filed legislation today to assist veterans harmed by the recent closure of ITT Technical Institute.
ITT Tech ceased operations last week, closing 130 campuses nationwide and impacting an estimated 40,000 students, including nearly 7,000 veterans.
