Internships

An internship in Congresswoman McCollum's office provides students with valuable experience as they prepare for their professional careers. Interns have the opportunity to work with and assist all members of the staff, including legislative, administrative, outreach, and communications duties. Internships are available in both the Congresswoman's Washington DC and St. Paul offices.

Applicants should be highly motivated and enthusiastic, as there are far more applicants than available positions. Minnesota ties are strongly preferred and should be noted in the first paragraph of your cover letter. We are happy to work with your college or university to arrange for academic credit. In addition, a stipend is available.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Supporting administrative staff: answering phones, database entry, and sorting mail.
  • Supporting legislative staff: tracking constituent correspondence, drafting letters, and conducting light research.
  • Attending briefings and hearings for legislative staff.
  • Compiling news clips.
  • Promoting constituent outreach efforts by communicating with constituents and constituent groups, attending meetings and events, and drafting correspondence.

Logistics: Internships are available year-round. They are available on either a full-time or a part-time basis, with a minimum of 25 hours a week. Transportation and housing for internships in the Washington, DC office are the responsibility of interns.

Application process: Applicants should send a cover letter, resume, and available hours. Additionally, please indicate any Minnesota ties. Students interested in a Washington, DC internship should email MN04admin@mail.house.gov. For Saint Paul internships, please email scheduler_mn04do@mail.house.gov Applications for spring 2017 internships are due on Friday, December 16, 2016.
