It was my distinct pleasure today to honor my friend Donald "Ducky" Birts, a longtime community organizer, civic activist and special assistant to Congressman R...obert Brady. He has been a tireless advocate for educating and providing opportunities for our youth. We celebrated the 10th year of Ducky's Annual Medallion Scholarship Gala and his 80th birthday.

Thanks to his family and all who were able to join us for this momentous occasion. PHL Council

Wishing a very happy and healthy Rosh Hashanah. As I join you in celebrating this new year, I'm taking time to reflect on two amazing people we lost in the last, Elie Wiesel and Shimon Peres. If we live by their messages of peace, I think this will be a great year. L'Shanah Tovah.

Ryan Howard, you will be missed!

Thanks for the memories, the home runs, and your dedication to the city of Philadelphia.

I applaud the #SCOTUS decision to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers.

It's now time Republicans stop blocking efforts to keep us safe from gun violence.

Domestic abusers and terrorists shouldn't have guns - it's common sense.

#BREAKING: Gun control advocates hailed Monday’s ruling as a victory for public safety and women and children most commonly affected by domestic violence.

Currently participating in a sit-in on the House floor because our nation deserves a vote on meaningful gun legislation.

Last night, I introduced legislation that would prevent state legislatures from overturning local gun laws.

The bill would specifically preempt State laws preventing a major city from regulating firearm-related conduct in the city that occurs in or affects interstate or foreign commerce.

The time is now for a vote!

A Tribute: Remembering the 2015 Amtrak Derailment

Mr. Speaker, I rise to remember the 8 people who were killed, as well as the more than 200 people injured in the Amtrak train 188 derailment one year ago today in Philadelphia. This tragedy affected the entire region, touching the lives of hundreds of people across the country. It serves as an important reminder that we must work to ensure the necessary safeguards are in place, in order to protect Amtrak riders and employees f...rom unnecessary heartbreaks such as this.

On this day, it is also important to remember and be thankful for the selfless work of our first responders and hospital staff that treated the victims and consequently saved lives. Equally important was the open hearted response of the residents of the area, who truly showed the nation why we are known as the “City of Brotherly Love” by immediately opening their doors to the victims and providing food and water. In spite of this terrible tragedy, we can be proud of the humanity exhibited by all those who offered help.

Mr. Speaker, I ask that you and my other distinguished colleagues help me in honoring the victims of the train 188 derailment one year ago today.

  • Respectfully - Myself & many other Philadelphians are concerned and ...opposed to the cabinet the president-elect is selecting, especially the appointment of proudly-racist Steve Bannon. Please do all you can to express our grief to whomever you can - this is not normal nor acceptable! Thank you. See More

Good Morning Mr. Brady, I come to you as a democrat myself, hoping ...that you are in disbelief as well as I am in what has occurred in this election. I wanted to know if you were willing to go with me, and stand united with many other voters and make some history. As you may know, Hilary Clinton WON the popular vote in the presidential election. However, Donald Trump is estimated to win the electoral vote. However, both of us know that the electoral college does not vote until December, therefore giving up about a month before it is clear who the president will be. With that being said, I NEED you to get into contact with your electoral college, let them know that we ALL want change and want to see her in the oval office. Pennsylvania was a very close vote and with YOUR help, we will be able to turn this election around. If Pennsylvania goes to Hilary Clinton, she will have enough electoral votes to win against Donald Trump. We can still make this happen!!! PLEASE, you are our only hope! Sincerely, A woman who wants to see change. See More
