House Administration Committee
In the 112th Congress, Congressman Brady was unanimously confirmed as Ranking Democratic Member in December of 2010.

The Committee is responsible for oversight of federal elections and the day-to-day functions of the House of Representatives, as well as budget authorizations for expenses of House committees, and those for expenses of Members of Congress. The Committee is also responsible for oversight of the House officers, including the administrative and technical functions of the House.

Additionally, the House Administration Committee oversees security on the House side of the Capitol Complex and works closely with the Capitol Police to ensure that every effort is made to keep the Capitol Complex secure while maintaining accessibility for the millions of constituents who visit every year. The Committee also oversees the management of the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian Institution including the National Zoo.

During his time in the Committee on House Administration, Congressman Brady has been instrumental in calling for and overseeing hearings and introducing legislation that positively improve the way the House of Representatives conducts its business. Some of these achievements include:

  • Demanded transparency and oversight after Congressional Republicans announced that they would be hiring a lawyer to defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), a 1996 law that defines marriages as between one man and one woman
  • Lead the fight to pass the Fair Elections Now Act - which would allow candidates to ignore corporations and special interests and run competitive campaigns by relying on small donations from their voters
  • Oversaw a hearing ensuring that those serving overseas are able to cast their votes in elections back in America
  • Introduced the DISCLOSE Act which addressed the Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United v. FEC and guaranteed transparency and disclosure in our electoral process
