Art Competition

Submissions for the 2016 3rd Congressional District Art Competition are now being accepted through March 28th (submissions will be accepted until Friday, April 1st).

All submitted artwork will be put on display in Durango, CO from April 1st – April 16th.

A reception will be held Tuesday, April 5th from 3:00 pm till 4:30 pm in Durango at the Durango Arts Center, 802 E. 2nd Avenue.

All entrants will receive a certificate of participation signed by Congressman Scott Tipton. First, second and third places will receive awards, and there will be honorable mentions for other submissions.

The first place artwork will be sent to Washington, DC to be exhibited in the U.S. Capitol along with other award-winning artworks from across the nation for a period of one year. 

Guidelines for the 2016 competition:

• The artwork must be no larger than 28 inches high, 28 inches wide and 4 inches deep including the outside dimensions of the frame. All artwork should be framed but not to exceed the dimensions above.

Artwork that will be accepted: 

• Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal (It is recommended that

Charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed.)

• Collage: must be two dimensional
• Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints
• Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.
• Photography
• Digital

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved in the nationwide competition.
