Energy

America is blessed with abundant energy resources, including natural gas reserves larger than the crude oil reserves of Saudi Arabia.  We need common sense energy policies which allow us to fully capitalize on these abundant resources instead of continuing to live at the mercy of unstable markets, international crises, and natural disasters.

As your Congressman and a Member of the House Whip Team, I have worked with House Republicans to pass legislation which ensures America makes the most of our domestic energy resources:

  • The Keystone XL Pipeline Act (H.R. 3) authorizes construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, expected to create 40,000 good paying jobs, lower energy costs for hardworking American families, and make America more energy independent.
  • The Natural Gas Pipeline Permitting Reform Act (H.R. 161) provides for the timely consideration of all licenses, permits, and approvals required under Federal law for natural gas pipeline projects, ensuring adequate protection while minimizing costly and unnecessary delays.  Regrettably, President Obama vetoed this important legislation.
  • The LNG Permitting Certainty and Transparency Act (H.R. 351) streamlines the necessary government approval process for liquefied natural gas exports.
  • The Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act (H.R. 2028) prioritizes federal energy spending on programs which promote an “all-of-the-above” strategy for American energy independence.

Restricting America to only a few, politically-favored energy sources would be reckless, both for the economy and national security.  We must maintain diverse sources of domestic energy, including continued support for safe, clean, and efficient nuclear power facilities.  Without energy diversity, America would be in a dangerous position, held hostage to the whims of other nations.

Renewable energy can be part of our goal of energy independence, but is only one part of the overall strategy.  Despite significant financial support using your tax dollars, federal investments in renewable energy projects have often led to failure.  Future growth in renewable energy must come from private investment, just like other energy sources.

Properly managed, America’s abundant supply of energy resources, cutting edge technology, gifted scientists, and appropriate federal initiatives will guarantee continued progress towards our goal of American energy independence.
