DeSantis Sworn In, Introduces Term Limits Bill

Jan 3, 2017
Press Release

Washington, DC – Upon being sworn in to the 115th Congress today, Rep. Ron DeSantis (FL-06) immediately introduced a constitutional amendment to limit the number of terms that members of Congress may serve. If adopted, members of the House could serve no more than three terms and Senators no more than two.

“Congressional Term Limits are the first step towards reforming Washington and draining the swamp,” DeSantis said. “Term limits for members of Congress will change the prevailing Beltway power structure, realign incentives for members of Congress and bring accountability to Washington, DC. I thank President-elect Donald Trump for his support for term limits and will work hard to restore the citizen-legislator ethos of our Founding Fathers.”

Sen. Ted Cruz (TX) introduced the Senate companion. Last month, DeSantis and Cruz penned an op-ed for the Washington Post outlining why term limits are a vital step towards restoring accountability on Capitol Hill. Read here.

“President Trump, Speaker Ryan and huge majorities of the American people are demanding term limits,” said U.S. Term Limits President Philip Blumel. “Congress must listen and pass the Cruz-DeSantis amendment immediately.”
