DeSantis Praises Selection of General John Kelly for Secretary of Homeland of Security

Dec 7, 2016
Press Release

Washington, DC – Rep. Ron DeSantis (FL-06) today issued the following statement praising President-elect Donald Trump’s decision to nominate Marine Corps General John Kelly as Secretary of Homeland Security:

“John Kelly served our country with distinction for decades as a U.S. Marine and I am glad to see him selected as the next Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.  General Kelly possesses a keen understanding of national security and counterterrorism issues, and, as the former Commander of U.S. Southern Command,  has virtually unrivaled experience in dealing with some of the key issues – such as border security and drug trafficking – that the next DHS Secretary will need to confront.  The DHS bureaucracy has been ineffective for far too long.  Naming someone of John Kelly’s stature and integrity to lead the troubled agency is a giant first step towards securing our borders and improving the defense of our homeland.  I commend President-Elect Donald Trump for the decision to nominate General Kelly and I look forward to working with them both to improve our security.”
