Congressional Art Competition
2016 Art Competition
My office has officially opened 2016's Congressional Art Competition, which gives 10th district students the opportunity to share their talents by submitting original artwork to hang on the walls of the United States Capitol. This year, our top five submissions will be determined by a contest on my Facebook page. All high school students in the 10th Congressional District are encouraged to participate.
All artwork and signed release forms must be delivered to my Modesto office at 4701 Sisk Road, Ste. 202 no later than 5:00 p.m. PST on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. All artwork will be posted to my Facebook page on Feb. 24 and the public will be invited to participate in the judging process by voting for their favorite piece of artwork. During the competition, fans of my Facebook page will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite piece by “liking” the submission – so if you haven’t already, become a fan now so you can vote for your favorite piece. Facebook voting will close at 12:00 p.m. PST on Monday, March 7. The top five submissions as determined by Facebook popularity will be submitted to a panel of judges for determination of the winner.

The first place winner will have his or her artwork sent to Washington, D.C. where it will be displayed for the next year in the national exhibition in the Cannon Tunnel, a pedestrian walkway leading to the United States Capitol. Additionally, a scholarship may also be offered to the winner to fly to Washington, D.C. for the reception and announcement of the National Winner. Second and third place winners will have the opportunity to display their art in my Modesto district office.
My office will be holding a reception for participating students on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. The winner will be announced that evening. Further details on location and time are to follow.

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nation-wide competition.
