Yoho Supports Legislation to Combat Sanctuary Cities

Bicameral bill introduced with the support of FAIR, nearly 60 House cosponsors

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ted S. Yoho (R-FL-03) has cosponsored the Stop Dangerous Sanctuary Cities Act –HR 400. The legislation, introduced with the support of 59 House cosponsors and the backing of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), would withhold key federal funding streams from jurisdictions that forbid their law enforcement officers from cooperating with federal immigration officials. Congressman Yoho released the following statements:

“Sanctuary cities, who blatantly thumb their noses at the federal government by not enforcing the laws on the books, endanger the lives of their citizens. Yet, these same cities take federal funding from hard working American taxpayers. The bill I am supporting will levy penalties on sanctuary cities for ignoring our federal immigration laws. The actions of these sanctuary cities work counter to stopping illegal immigration and to keeping dangerous individuals – who are here illegally – off the streets.”

In a letter supporting the legislation, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) stated: “The Stop Dangerous Sanctuary Cities Act recognizes that sanctuary jurisdictions should not be allowed to defy federal immigration law without consequence. Jurisdictions that impede the enforcement of federal immigration laws would be denied access to federal funding. If these jurisdictions do receive grants and are then found to have sanctuary policies, they will be required to give back the funds, which will then be reallocated to compliant jurisdictions.
