Seniors Issues
Thousands of seniors in the 33rd Congressional District depend on Social Security and Medicare, which provide the financial and health protections necessary to keep seniors out of poverty. Nationwide, about 90 percent of Americans aged 65 and older receive Social Security benefits and nearly 2 in 3 get half or more of their income from Social Security. I fully support protecting our nation’s safety net from cuts that jeopardize the well-being of seniors.
Our parents and grandparents have worked hard over the course of their lives. That is why I oppose budget proposals that turn Medicare into a voucher program and end the promise that benefits will be guaranteed to seniors. Our country made a commitment to care for our parents and grandparents, and it’s important that we uphold and fulfill that commitment.
Today’s young Americans will retire one day and need these vital programs. For this reason, I oppose proposals that would push back the Medicare eligibility age. Increasing the eligibility age doesn’t lower healthcare costs, it just shifts costs onto seniors.

Washington, D.C. – In an effort to protect our nation's seniors, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, introduced H.R. 6457, the Preventative Services Medicare Parity Act, that will update preventative services coverage for Medicare recipients. The bill would require Medicare to cover senior healthcare recommended by the U.S. Preventative Services Taskforce
On October 5th and October 7th, I will be hosting senior seminars in Dallas and Fort Worth to help TX-33 senior residents learn more about the different resources available to them. The events will help residents avoid common mail fraud scams, learn safety tips, how to apply for Medicare, how to ensure they receive their full Social Security benefits, and how to stay healthy and fit at any age.
Washington, D.C. – On the heels of the 2016 presidential election, ensuring unfettered access to the ballot box for all Americans is more important than ever. For this reason, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, co-chair of the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus (CVRC) introduced H.Res. 866, a resolution to commemorate the month of September as “National Voting Rights Month,” to highlight the importance of this sacred right.
A Federal District Court Judge has ruled that Texas must modify its 2011 photo voter ID law to allow voters to cast a regular ballot in this year’s election after showing an alternative identification and signing a simple declaration form. Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Marc Veasey, co-chairman of the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus, introduced H.R. 5557, The Poll Tax Prohibition Act, to ensure the underlying costs of restrictive photo voter ID laws don’t prevent everyday Americans from exercising their right to vote. Three years after the Shelby County v. Holder decision gutted the 1965 Voting Rights Act, Rep. Veasey remains committed to protecting voters from the modern day poll tax.
