Conservative Values

As your Representative I will continue to use common sense criteria in evaluating any legislation that is brought to the floor of the House and vigorously defend the values that we hold dear as Missourians and Americans.

Before the Roe v. Wade battle heated up in 1973, I had not heard of abortion.  Once someone explained the practice to me I found it to be literally jaw dropping and I still feel that way today.  We must be the voice of the weakest members of society, the unborn who cannot protect themselves.  I will work hard to fight abortion, prevent any government funding for abortion, and do anything I can to save the innocent lives, which are being lost on a daily basis.

Our government has taken care to create laws that define criminal behavior.  Those who commit wrongful acts are punished, regardless of their motives.  You cannot read someone’s mind and determine what motivated them to commit a crime.  We can only judge the criminality of the action, not the motivation.  I do not believe that the government should be in the business of reading minds, while as a society we should have a zero-tolerance policy toward all violent crime

A truly just and economic system is one that allows the individual to keep the fruits of his own mental and physical labor.  That system is capitalism and it has done more to lift up the human condition from poverty than any other system in the history of the world.

The government should not be in the business of choosing winners and losers.  When the government tries to interfere in the market place, such as with bailouts, it rewards bad behavior by transferring wealth from those who made smart investments to those who made bad investments.  Not only is this practice an irresponsible use of government, it leaves us poorer as a society.

It’s simply criminal to allow the government to continue to spend money that we don’t have.  As Americans, it is criminal to ask someone to pay for our debts just so we can live extravagantly today.  If we do not change the behavior of government, my children will not raise their children in the same country that I grew up in; a place that instilled moral values in me from a young age.  The principles of life, liberty, freedom and the power of the individual are values that we need to protect.
