America’s ‘wars of choice’ – and particularly our ongoing military involvement in the Middle East – have cost us more than $3 trillion over the past 13 years, taken the lives of more than 6,000 U.S. troops, and saddled tens of thousands more with injuries they will suffer for the rest of their lives. These Middle East wars are unending, thousand year old sectarian battles where we have no friends – wars that despite our good intentions have proved to be unaffordable, unwinnable and counterproductive exercises in bad economics where the money and weapons we provide frequently end up lost – or worse, in enemy hands. Our 2014 defense amendments to cut off funds for reconstruction projects and new construction projects in Afghanistan represent real progress in the fight against waste and corruption. I will continue to do everything in my power to bring our brave troops home and use our resources to rebuild America and create the good middle class jobs we need here at home to grow our economy.
I support bipartisan efforts to reestablish diplomatic relations with Cuba and have cosponsored legislation to end our embargo and allow U.S. citizens to travel there freely. The fact is, the Cuban market presents great business opportunities for Minnesota manufacturing, health care, high technology and industrial goods - including steel made with ore mined on the Iron Range. Moreover, our best diplomatic tools come from Americans - business people, tourists and people from all walks of life who expose the Cuban people to our entrepreneurship, creativity, industriousness, work ethic and all the successes democracy makes possible

“The bipartisan Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act will help ensure that hostile foreign governments pay the price for killing Americans. And with my cosponsorship, the House overwhelmingly reaffirmed support for this legislation to allow nations that sponsor terrorism on U.S. soil to be held accountable by victims and their families in U.S. courts.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KDAL) - Representative Rick Nolan has renewed his call to declassify and make public 28 secret pages of the 9-11 Commission Report that describes in detail who likely financed the Saudi-al Qaeda terrorists who attacked the World Trade Center and Pentagon in 2001.
Nolan is one of the few members of Congress who obtained a special security clearance and read the transcripts in a locked and guarded room beneath the U-S Capitol building.
Nolan says the pages he reviewed "present a clear and startling picture of who financed the attacks."

For the occasion, he was joined by administration officials, members of Congress, American business leaders, even professional baseball players — and for many of them, it was a first trip, or a follow-up to a recent trip taken in the wake of the U.S.-Cuba thaw initiated in December 2014.
