Rice Votes for Government Funding, Matthew Relief

Press Release

WASHINGTON – Congressman Tom Rice (SC-07) today released the following statement after voting in favor of the Continuing Resolution (CR), which extends funding for government operations through April 2017 and includes relief funds for Hurricane Matthew and other natural disasters.

“In October, people all across the Pee Dee and Grand Strand were devastated by Hurricane Matthew and many are still trying to recover. Today I voted for the CR which includes Hurricane Matthew relief, including grants to help individuals rebuild and funding for Army Corps repairs. While this is certainly a step in the right direction, it’s important to remember the enormity of this storm and the time it will take to fully recover. Over the coming months, I’ll continue to work with appropriators and my Congressional colleagues to fight for resources to uplift our district and return it back to normal.”

The CR contains $4.1 billion in disaster relief assistance to address national damages caused by recent natural disasters, including Hurricane Matthew, flooding, droughts, and other severe weather events in 2016.
