Heroin and prescription drug abuse is tearing families apart throughout South Carolina and across America. From 2013-2014 alone the Palmetto State saw a 118 percent rise in opioid-related deaths. In 2015 the Florence County Sheriff’s Office seized 3,339 percent more heroin than in 2012.

Congressman Tom Rice and long-time university employee Rannie Gamble will receive honorary degrees at Francis Marion University’s fall commencement on Saturday, Dec. 19.

Rice will also be the commencement speaker.

The Ways and Means Committee is the chief tax writing committee of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Congressman Tom Rice spent Monday in Andrews visiting flooded-out homes and talking with victims and volunteers.

“It’s going to take time to recover,” stated Rice. ” It’s going to take time to even figure out the extent of the damages.”

Rice said he met people who’ve suffered great loss, but maintain a positive outlook.
