Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12), member of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, released the following statement following an event with her Democratic colleagues, Ilyse Hogue, President, NARAL Pro-Choice America, and Cecile Richards, President, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, on the importance of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) for women’s health care.

“Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, Americans across the country have seen significant improvements in healthcare quality and access. The ACA has especially benefitted women with coverage for preventive care, including contraception, maternity care, and screening for breast and cervical cancer. Perhaps most importantly, insurance companies can no longer charge women more for coverage simply because they are women. Repealing the ACA will erase this great progress, sending women’s healthcare backwards and endangering lives. The Republican move to include a provision to defund Planned Parenthood in their measure to repeal the ACA just adds insult to injury for the state of women’s healthcare. I am proud to join my Democratic colleagues to fight any attempt to repeal the ACA.”
