Rep. Maloney on Republican Attempt to Weaken Office of Congressional Ethics

Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Following the House Republican conference’s initial vote to weaken the independent Office of Congressional Ethics, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12), senior member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, released the following statement:

“It is outrageous that the Republican majority in the House would try to unilaterally move to weaken Congressional ethics standards by compromising the independent processes of the Office of Congressional Ethics and its ability to receive anonymous complaints and tips. While I’m pleased House Republicans reversed course in response to the huge outcry of opposition, an issue as important as this shouldn’t be a one-sided conversation with a majority attempting to change the governing rules of this body, but rather any decision involving the ethics of the People’s House should be bipartisan.”
