Maloney Calls for Bipartisan Congressional Investigation into Russian Interference in the 2016 Election

Press Release

Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12), senior member on the House Committee of Oversight and Government Reform, released the following statement today in support of calls for a Congressional investigation in response to the intelligence community’s assessment that Russia interfered with the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

“The American people deserve to know the whole truth and the extent of Russian interference in our presidential election. The intelligence community’s conclusion that Russia acted in a way to undermine our elections is deeply troubling and to restore full faith in our electoral process, our country needs to take action and get answers.

“I commend President Obama’s direction to the CIA to conduct a full review and issue a report before the end of his term in January and I join many of my Democratic colleagues who have called for a bipartisan Congressional investigation. Surely preserving our just and free electoral process is a cause worthy of bipartisanship.

“Any attack, attempted or successful, on our people and our elections, is a grave offense against our democracy and way of life and must be treated as such. The American people deserve answers. Any foreign interference in America’s free and open elections is completely inexcusable and can be neither tolerated nor ignored.”
