7th District lawmaker will remain on Health and Consumer Protection Panels

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) has been appointed Vice Chair of the Communications and Technology Subcommittee under the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee.  The influential panel has oversight over the United States digital economy, the Federal Communications Commission and rules and regulations effecting New Jersey’s many telecommunications companies.

“I thank Chairman Walden for this appointment.  The digital economy is going to be the driving force of job creation across the country.  Millions of jobs and countless opportunities depend on a reliable and high-speed digital infrastructure.  I am looking forward to being on the forefront of crafting smart policies in Washington that will build better networks, improve consumer experiences  and keep people safe.  The communications and technology fields employ thousands of people in New Jersey and I want to be their advocate in keeping the United States the global leader of digital innovation,” said Lance.     

Chairman Greg Walden, the new Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, praised Lance.  “Congressman Leonard Lance has been one of the biggest advocates working to address issues facing 21st century consumers, and I know he’ll approach his role as Vice-Chairman of the Communications and Technology Subcommittee with the same passion and tenacity. This subcommittee does critical work updating communications laws, improving mobile networks, and protecting consumers, and Congressman Lance will be a key voice throughout these discussions as we craft policy to move across the finish line.”

The House Energy and Commerce Committee is considered one of the most important in Congress.  It has jurisdiction over much of the Nation’s energy, health care, telecommunications, environmental and consumer protection policies.  In addition to his Vice-Chairman role, Lance will continue to serve as a senior member of the Health Subcommittee as well as the Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection.
