Congressman Randy Hultgren

Representing the 14th District of ILLINOIS

Government Accountability and Transparency

The U.S Constitution grants the federal government specific and enumerated powers, and separates the three branches—legislative, executive and judicial—to provide a check on one another. Congress and the House specifically have a unique role in overseeing the executive branch.

With revelations that the president and his administration have continued to expand their reach into the daily lives of Americans, the House has a wide variety of channels and powers available to check the power of the executive branch. These include:  formal congressional committee hearings and subpoena authority to scrutinize executive spending or activities; Member contacts with executive officials; committee studies to support agency reviews; casework conducted by Member offices; and studies prepared by non-congressional entities such as inspectors general.

As your representative in Congress, it is my job to hold the White House accountable and promote an effective, efficient government that works for you. I will continue to work hard to expose the harmful actions of the federal government, and ensure it is held accountable for them.
