About the District
The 14th Congressional District of Illinois contains a diverse set of farmland and city-scape, starting at the Wisconsin border and wrapping around Chicago’s collar counties to include parts of DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will Counties. The 14th District is unique in its offerings, ranging from niche towns with unique charm and rural countryside to community suburbs that run along the Fox River Valley. Tourists have found particular rest and relaxation from the hustle and bustle of Chicago, while residents have enjoyed easy access to the transportation and commercial hub of the Midwest.
Our district offers an abundance of wildlife preserves, biking paths and nature paths along the Fox River suited for everyone. Throughout the year, counties and towns host many family-friendly festivals, including Swedish Days in Geneva, Pumpkin Festival in Sycamore and Milk Days in Harvard. The district holds a rich history and boasts many historical sites, including the Fabyan Windmill in Kane County, a 19th century and fully-operational authentic Dutch windmill, the Fabyan Villa designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and accompanying Japanese gardens – the National Historic Landmark the Farnsworth House built by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe – and the picturesque Woodstock Square including the Woodstock Opera House which is prominently featured in the film, Groundhog Day. Additionally, the creator of the “Dick Tracy” comic strip, Chester Gould, resided for fifty years in the 14th District and the community often celebrates his contributions to the arts.
The 14th District is home to a varied cross-section of innovative industries and businesses that provide thousands of jobs to Illinois residents. Batavia boasts one of the Department of Energy’s 19 national laboratories, Fermilab, which houses hundreds of scientists from around the globe and is on the forefront of high energy physics, particle beam acceleration and technology transfer. Since making unprecedented discoveries via what was the world’s largest particle accelerator, the Tevatron, Fermilab scientists have turned their attention to neutrino experiments, the next wave of high energy physics research. In addition, advanced manufacturing has seen resurgence in the 14th District, from aerospace technology to the creation and design of agricultural manufacturing equipment.
Included in the district are all or parts of Algonquin, Antioch, Aurora, Batavia, Campton Hills, Crystal Lake, DeKalb, Elgin, Fox Lake, Geneva, Gurnee, Harvard, Huntley, Johnsburg, Joliet, Lake in the Hills, Marengo, McHenry, Mundelein, Naperville, North Aurora, Oswego, Plainfield, Plano, Sandwich, Shorewood, St. Charles, Spring Grove, Sycamore, Warrenville, Wauconda, Wonder Lake, Woodstock and Yorkville, among other cities and towns.
