Service Academy Nominations
Thank you for your interest in serving our country through the armed forces. The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation. Members of Congress have the privilege of nominating candidates for appointment to U.S. service academies. These academies offer world-class education and have produced some of our nation’s brightest leaders.
We encourage interested young men and women who want to serve our country and meets the basic requirements to apply.
The deadline to apply is November 10, 2016
What are the basic eligibility requirements?
Each applicant for a nomination must meet the following eligibility requirements as of July 1st of the year of admission to an academy:
Age: Be at least 17 years old, but not have passed the 23rd birthday
Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen
Marital Status: Must be unmarried, not pregnant, and without legal obligation to support children or other dependents
Residence: Must reside within the boundaries of the 26th Congressional District of New York.
Skill / Fitness: Must meet the medical, physical, and academic requirements of the Academy.
How to Complete the Application Process
Apply to the academies of your choice. Our nation's service academies offer a rigorous four-year college education and an applicant can apply to as many academies as they choose.

Each academy requires the submission of a preliminary application to initiate the admissions process. Preliminary application materials are available from the academies' websites listed above.

Contents your nomination application should include
A printed version of the completed online application
- Current photo
- High school transcript
- College Board Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) results
- If available, American College Testing Program (ACT) results
- Resume of extracurricular activities
- An essay stating why you want to attend a service academy (500 words or less)
- Minimum of three letters of recommendation
What happens after I have completed my nomination file?
Applicants who submit a completed nomination file will be contacted about an interview in late November. Interviews are generally held on a Saturday morning in December or January.
