Military Academy Nominations

One of the requirements of acceptance to a Service Academy is to obtain a Congressional Nomination. As a Member of the United States Congress, I have the honor and privilege of nominating qualified candidates who meet the physical and academic requirements and have a desire to serve our Country to the United States Military Academies. My Father is a World War II Veteran.  I have the highest respect for  the young men and women who are willing to stand up and take the oath to defend our Country.  I have assembled an outstanding Academy Review Board, and the decision  to nominate is weighed very carefully.

Application and Nomination Process

Your first priority is to contact the Academy(s) of your choice and request a pre-candidate Application. To qualify for a nomination to one of the four Academies, you must be a United States Citizen; a resident of the Tennessee’s Third District; between the ages of 17 and 23 (25 for Merchant Marine Academy); and unmarried with no dependents.

You can start the nomination process as early as the spring of your High School Junior year. If you are interested in applying for a nomination for the entering class of 2017, you may download a PDF COPY of application for Nomination and mail it to my Academy Coordinator in the Chattanooga Office (Please save a copy for your personal records) or you can call the office at 423-756-2342 and have an application mailed to you.

Applications should be sent to:

Congressman Chuck Fleischmann
Attn: Academy Coordinator
900 Georgia Ave  Suite 126
Chattanooga, TN  37402

The deadline to have your completed Application for Nomination to my Chattanooga
office is October 31st, 2016.

The Service Academies include:

United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO.   www.usafa.edu

United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. www.usma.edu

United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD.  www.usna.edu

United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY. www.usmma.edu

*United States Coast Guard Academy at New London, CT. www.cga.edu

*Unlike the other Academies, the Coast Guard Academy does NOT require a Congressional Nomination, appointments are made on the basis of an annual nationwide competition.

Once you have informed the admissions office of your interest, service academy officials will establish a candidate file to keep track of your application. The Congressional Nomination is only one part of the admissions process. You will also need to submit application materials directly to the academies and report for physical and medical evaluations.

Attending any of the military academies will offer you an excellent education, training and leadership experience that will serve you well as you embark on a profession as a military officer. Graduation from a service Academy obligates you to serve five years of active duty.

The acceptance for admission is very competitive. You may apply to more than one academy to increase your chances of admission. The academies also recommend that you apply to all available nominating authorities. Please visit the web sites for the academies for further information and eligibility requirements

Please know that I am proud of all of our young people in the Third District and it is my distinct honor to represent you in the United States Congress. I wish you the best as you move forward with the application process.
