Internships

Washington, D.C.

In my Washington, DC office, internships run throughout the fall, spring or summer semesters for college students or recent graduates. They will be asked to answer phones, giver tours of the Capitol, run errands, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings, and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.

Although internships in both my Colorado and Washington offices are unpaid, students will gain invaluable work experience. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' course schedules, but generally run 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. when Congress is in session, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. when not in session. It is highly recommended that interns be available to work a minimum of 25 hours per week.

Attractive applicants will have completed at least 60 credit hours of undergraduate coursework.  Please highlight any related coursework, foreign language experience, and multi-media skills in your application. When applying, please include a cover letter and a current resume.

I accept internship applications on a rolling basis, but please be respectful of the typical internship start dates – January for the spring semester, May for the summer semester and August/September for the fall semester.
