Intern in Senator Markey's Boston Office 

 
Intern responsibilities include: Senator Markey with Interns
-Answering phone calls and directing visitors 
-Handling intake of new constituent casework issues
-Contacting federal agencies on behalf of constituents and relaying responses
-Completing research projects 
-Assisting staff with administrative and organizational tasks as they arise
 
Applicants should be self-motivated and possess the following qualifications
-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
-An interest in public service, policy and current events
-Strong writing ability
-Attention to detail and problem solving capacity
 
In order to maximize the intern’s experience and assist the office most efficiently, applicants should be available to work at least 15 hours per week for approximately 12 weeks, although ideal hours may vary for winter break applicants. 
 
Senator Markey's Boston office is now accepting applications for internships for Spring 2017.

Intern in Senator Markey's Washington D.C. Office

Senator Markey’s Washington, DC Office is currently accepting applications for Spring 2017. 
 
Qualifications:  Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students and should be responsible self-starters who possess strong writing, research, and interpersonal skills. Backgrounds in political science, international relations, environmental studies, and communications are all desirable but not required. Massachusetts ties are strongly preferred.
 
Commitment & Credit:  Internship opportunities are available on a full-time or part-time basis and applicants are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible as spaces are filled on a rolling basis.  School credit is possible for all internships if arranged and approved by the intern’s respective college or university.
 
Intern Responsibilties Include:
-Assisting the Senator and staff in all areas of the office operation.
-Interacting with and serving Massachusetts constituents
-Researching legislative initiatives and drafting replies to constituent inquiries; attending committee hearings and briefings; and assisting with a variety of legislative or press projects.  
-Handling intake of new constituent casework issues, contacting federal agencies on behalf of constituents and relaying responses and completing research projects 
 
Interns are assigned to work with senior legislative assistants based on issue interests or expertise.  The office seeks interns to work on a variety of issues, particularly Health Care, Education, Foreign Policy and Environmental Policy, but we welcome interns of all issue interests who possess a strong passion for public service.

Senate Page Program

**Applications for the United States Senate Page Program have closed for the Summer of 2016. Applications are open through June 1 for the Fall 2016 semester**

Senate pages come from all across the United States. They are appointed and sponsored by a senator, they must be high school juniors, at least sixteen years old, and attend school. Senate page duties consist primarily of delivery of correspondence and legislative material within the Congressional complex. Other duties include preparing the chamber for Senate sessions, and carrying bills and amendments to the desk. Pages attend classes in the early morning at the United States Senate Page School, a program fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. 

Every year, there are four established page sessions. The school calendar year consists of one fall semester session running through mid-January and

a spring semester session running from mid-January until mid-June. 

Additionally, the summer program consists of two sessions which are three or four weeks in duration, depending on the legislative calendar.

The United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP)

The USSYP is an intensive week-long educational experience and scholarship sponsored by the United States Senate for outstanding Massachusetts high school students who are interested in pursuing careers in public service.
